Job summary

BWX Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design system components for high temperature gas and light water reactors, from concept to realization.

You will work in a matrixed team across disciplines at the Lynchburg site, ensuring fabrication, testing and inspection considerations are integrated. The role requires a BS in engineering, 4+ years of relevant nuclear experience, SolidWorks proficiency, ASME knowledge, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline is required.
• Minimum four years of relevant experience.
• Experience in nuclear reactor core components, reactor vessel, reactivity control devices, and reactor vessel head components.
• Working knowledge of ASME Code, Section III and VIII, specifically.
• SolidWorks 3D modeling experience.
• Knowledge of GD&T principles and application is required.
• General knowledge of project engineering activities (task plans, schedules, etc.).
• Ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely written and verbal communication is required.
• Must be a strong team player with the ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers.
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced team environment but also have the ability to work independently.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE or DOD security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Perform detail component, system and design engineering activities including drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports.
• Perform component design with understanding of assembly, testing and inspection of mechanical components and system functions within the design.
• Implement design control and configuration control concepts.
• Implement design for manufacturing and system operations.
• Learn new procedures, processes and tools while maintaining various stages of production.
• Specify procurement requirements for mechanical components or system operability.
