Job summary

BWXT Advanced Technologies in Lynchburg, Virginia, is seeking a Mechanical System Design Engineer focused on system design. The role reports to the Mechanical System Design Supervisor and supports projects across Advanced Manufacturing, Medical Radioisotopes, and Nuclear Reactor Design.

The position requires a B.S. in Physics or Engineering and at least four years of relevant experience, with a strong mechanical design background and the ability to secure a security clearance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Physics or an Engineering discipline is required.
• Minimum of four (4) years of relevant work experience.
• Technical background in mechanical engineering design, fluid systems, thermodynamics, and process instrumentation.
• Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office applications is required.

Responsibilities

• Identify system requirements and prepare system design documentation.
• Select components and prepare specifications for detailed design.
• Design piping systems with line sizing and pressure drop calculations.
• Create output documentation such as P&IDs and data sheets.
• Coordinate with electrical, I&C, and mechanical engineers.
