Job summary

BWX Technologies, Inc. seeks a Structural Mechanical Engineer to design and analyze structural systems for facility infrastructure and equipment at the Lynchburg, VA site. You will ensure safety, stability, and compliance with codes in a hands-on, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering and physics is required.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience is required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and high-quality workmanship are essential.
  • Clear, concise, accurate written and verbal communication is required.
  • Experience applying natural phenomena loads (Seismic, Wind, Snow, Thermal) on structures is required.
  • Experience with 3D CAD Design and Drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks).
  • Knowledge of piping analysis software (AutoPipe or similar) and ASME B31.1/B31.3 or NF.

Responsibilities

  • Design complex structural systems for facility infrastructure and equipment.
  • Perform structural evaluations for foundations, components, and lifting.
  • Support production, equipment, and facilities upgrades or new installations.
  • Coordinate interfaces with mechanical and electrical disciplines.
  • Create CAD drawings and engineering calculations per nuclear and commercial standards.
  • Analyze concrete, steel, and aluminum structures per design codes.
  • Assess seismic, wind, and other loads on structures and perform soil-structure analysis.
