Job summary

Idaho National Laboratory is seeking an Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Engineer to advance digital technologies for nuclear power plants. You will lead RD&D efforts, collaborate with partners, and contribute to proposals and publications.

The role emphasizes safety‑critical digital systems, regulatory guidance, and the development of innovative testbeds and models, with a path across Level 3 or Level 4 depending on credentials.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree (Electrical/Mechanical/Chemical/Nuclear) with required experience.
• Level 4 requires MS or PhD with related experience; Level 3 requires ABET degree with 2 years of experience.
• Experience with digital I&C design and safety-critical systems is expected.
• Proficiency in Python, C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink and LabVIEW is desired.

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, modify, or evaluate digital I&C systems.
• Develop and implement design requirements and validation plans.
• Collaborate with government, academia and industry partners.
• Publish findings and prepare competitive proposals for funding opportunities.
• Mentor junior staff and contribute to technology transfer efforts.
• Communicate results clearly to management and external audiences.
