Job summary

X-energy LLC is hiring HVAC Mechanical Design Engineers to support a Plant & Process Design team. The role involves designing and developing mechanical systems and components, performing process calculations, and ensuring compliance with X-energy design guides.

You will manage the full life cycle from initial requirements to a fully functional system. The position emphasizes systems engineering, risk management, and collaboration with stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field from ABET-accredited university.
• Level II: typically 3 years of mechanical engineering experience; Level III: typically 5 years; Level IV: typically 10 years; Level V: typically 15 years.
• Master’s degree may substitute for two years of experience; Ph.D. may substitute for three years.
• Experience with mechanical process equipment design, procurement, installation, and/or operation.
• Knowledge of Systems Engineering processes and nuclear power plant licensing, regulatory, quality and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical systems and components for nuclear safety-related applications.
• Coordinate with stakeholders/systems engineers and identify applicable industry codes and standards.
• Create and maintain CAD-generated engineering models.
• Perform thermal and hydraulic calculations to ensure SSCs meet requirements.
• Develop design documentation (design basis documents, calculations, drawings) per procedures.
• Lead project teams, manage external engineering partners, and support procurement of materials and services.
• Review technical documents for correctness and compliance with X-energy processes.
• Identify and mitigate system and project risks; ensure quality and safety compliance.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering discipline from an ABET accredited university

Master’s degree in engineering (may be in lieu of two years experience)

Ph.D. in engineering (may be in lieu of three years experience)

Experience with mechanical process equipment design, procurement, installation, and/or operation

Systems Engineering knowledge and processes

Nuclear industry knowledge and licensing awareness
