Job summary

Duke Energy is seeking a Civil Nuclear Engineer III or Senior Civil Nuclear Engineer for the McGuire Nuclear Station. The role supports the Nuclear Fleet Corporate Design Engineering team, focusing on design changes, stress/structural analyses, and plant modernization.

Responsibilities include scope development, issue resolution, field support, and updating regulatory and design documents. Hybrid work and potential travel are expected; a BS in engineering is required with nuclear experience

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering from ABET-accredited program. Master’s degree may substitute for BS.
• Minimum 4–6 years of engineering experience; nuclear experience preferred.
• Senior level requires 6+ years or 5 years with PE licensure; nuclear experience advantage.

Responsibilities

• Develop scope, technical basis, installation and testing requirements for design changes (stress, structural, seismic).
• Research issues, evaluate alternatives, and present recommendations.
• Support design changes through reviews, field installation, and action programs.
• Prepare design/procurement specifications and technical requirements documents.
• Develop and revise engineering calculations and licensing screens.
• Update site design basis documents and regulatory documents impacted by changes.
