Job summary

American Association for Justice in Washington, DC seeks a Staff Accountant to perform day-to-day full-cycle accounting for AAJ and its affiliates. You will apply GAAP and provide accurate financial data for management review.

Responsibilities include month-end close, reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable, cash management, and support for audits. A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and at least three years of experience are required, nonprofit experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
• At least three years of full-cycle accounting experience
• Experience with GAAP and financial reporting

Responsibilities

• Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries and reconciliations
• Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management
• Monitor restricted funds and ensure proper allocation and documentation of expenses
• Maintain organized financial records and audit-ready documentation
• Assist with annual audit preparation and external reporting requirements
• Contribute to process improvements in accounting controls and procedures
