Job summary

American Public Health Association seeks a Staff Accountant to support the CFO and Controller in daily accounting and bank/GL activities. You will ensure GAAP compliance and handle reconciliations for electronic payments and investments, collaborating with external partners as needed.

The role requires a accounting degree and at least four years in progressive accounting, preferably in nonprofit settings. A hybrid work arrangement is available in downtown DC, with overtime and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• College degree in accounting or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Minimum of 4 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in nonprofit accounting.
• Experience with IMIS and/or Great Plains preferred.
• Willingness to work overtime, including weekends and travel to APHA meetings.

Responsibilities

• Assist CFO and Controller with day-to-day accounting activities focusing on bank and general ledger transactions.
• Reconcile electronic payments (credit cards, PayPal, wires) to monthly bank reconciliations and general ledger.
• Record investments and reconcile to financial standards; coordinate with vendors and fulfillment houses.
• Support annual audit preparation and ad hoc financial analyses.
