Job summary

Audit Manager – Not-for-Profit Practice in Northbrook, IL, hybrid work arrangement. Our client, a respected CPA firm, seeks an experienced manager specializing in nonprofit audits to lead engagements and mentor teams.

You will oversee planning, fieldwork, and reporting, ensuring quality and adherence to GAAP/GAAS while building strong client relationships and providing actionable recommendations. A CPA and nonprofit experience are highly preferred; potential path to Partner is highlighted.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field; master's degree a plus.
• 5–7+ years of audit experience within a public accounting firm.
• Experience supervising, reviewing, and developing audit staff.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, GAAS, and financial statement preparation.
• Excellent client relationship management, communication, and organizational skills.
• CPA designation strongly preferred.
• Previous nonprofit or tax-exempt audit experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage audit engagements for a diverse nonprofit client portfolio.
• Oversee all phases of audit engagements: planning, fieldwork, reporting, and final deliverables.
• Develop audit strategies, budgets, staffing plans, and timelines.
• Review financial statements, workpapers, and management letters.
• Ensure engagements comply with professional standards and quality expectations.
• Mentor and supervise audit associates and senior accountants.
• Coordinate staffing, budgets, and resource allocation; develop staff.
