Job summary

The California Foundation for Independent Living Centers (CFILC) in a Sacramento-based hybrid setting seeks a Finance Manager to lead day-to-day financial management, accounting oversight, budgeting, reporting, compliance, and audit readiness. This role supervises the Bookkeeper and coordinates with external providers to ensure complete records and strong internal controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field and 5+ years nonprofit accounting experience.
• Knowledge of U.S. GAAP, nonprofit and fund accounting, revenue recognition, restricted funds, cost allocation, and internal controls.
• Experience managing government grants or contracts and preparing funder invoices and reports.
• Experience leading annual audits and coordinating Form 990 filings.
• 2+ years of supervisory experience directing accounting staff or providers.
• Ability to analyze complex financial information and communicate clearly to leadership and Board.
• Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Excel; ability to learn related systems.

Responsibilities

• Oversee CFILC’s accounting operations, general ledger, and month-end close processes.
• Supervise Bookkeeper and coordinate with external accounting, audit, tax, payroll, and other providers.
• Establish roles, approvals, schedules, and deliverables; ensure accuracy and timeliness.
• Review account coding, reconciliations, and payroll/benefits allocations; manage depreciation and revenue tracking.
• Ensure proper revenue recognition and tracking of restricted funds and grants under GAAP.
• Prepare monthly and annual financial statements, variance analyses, and cash-flow projections.
• Provide financial analysis and forecasts to support operational decisions for the Executive Director.
• Maintain secure accounting records and audit trails; support internal controls.
