Job summary

The Health Trust in San Jose, CA is seeking an Assistant Controller to lead nonprofit back-office accounting services with minimal supervision. This hybrid role requires strong GAAP knowledge, budgeting, and financial reporting experience for multiple clients.

You will manage month-end close, payroll, grant billings, and financial statements, while presenting results to executives and auditors and ensuring strict internal controls and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, preferably nonprofit-focused.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; ability to configure accounting software.
• Ability to present financial information to executives, program managers, and auditors.

Responsibilities

• Perform complete month-end and year-end close for multiple nonprofit clients.
• Prepare client financial statements and dashboards for reporting.
• Maintain balance sheet schedules and ledger accuracy.
• Process payroll and grant/billing functions.
• Develop budgets and perform variance analyses.
• Execute reconciliations for bank, investment, and other GL accounts.
• Prepare journal entries and grant-related billings.
• Present financial results to executives and outside auditors.
• Configure accounting software and onboard new clients.
• Ensure internal controls and data confidentiality.
