Job summary

The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division is seeking an Accounts Receivable Coordinator in Chicago to manage invoicing, cash receipts, and AR subledger across multiple funds. The role partners with program, development, and finance teams to ensure accurate revenue recognition and grant compliance.

You will process invoices, apply payments, support month-end close, and assist with audits while upholding nonprofit accounting standards.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; Bachelor's degree a plus.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounts receivable or accounting support.
• Experience with grant billing, contract invoicing, and restricted/unrestricted funds accounting preferred.
• Willing to promote the mission of The Salvation Army; strong analytical and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and issue invoices for grants, contracts, and program services across multiple entities and funds.
• Record and apply all incoming payments (cash, checks, ACH, credit, online donations) to the appropriate accounts, programs, and entities.
• Maintain the AR subledger and reconcile it to the general ledger.
• Monitor receivable balances and aging reports; proactively follow up on overdue accounts.
• Deposit all cash and checks received on a timely basis.
• Ensure accurate revenue coding to funds, cost centers, and programs.
• Process credit card transactions as authorized by donors.
• Initiate ACH transfers with supporting documentation.
