Job summary

The Salvation Army in Chicago is seeking a Staff Accountant to support the General Fund division. You will review, reconcile, analyze, and report financial results to help department managers with day-to-day operations and informed decision-making.

The role involves coordinating with multiple vendors, performing month-end close tasks, and assisting with internal audits. Prior nonprofit experience is preferred; strong Excel and accounting system skills are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of college education with an accounting focus (Bachelor's degree in accounting) preferred.
• At least 2-3 years accounting experience, with a background in general ledger, financial analysis and account reconciliations.
• Experience with computerized accounting systems and Excel spreadsheets.
• Experience in nonprofit or faith-based organization is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reconcile and analyze general ledger accounts and resolve reconciling items.
• Review and reconcile fixed assets, prepaid expenses, reserves, loans, and deferred revenues.
• Prepare distribution spreadsheets and process monthly vendor invoices.
• Manage petty cash reimbursements and accounts receivable aging.
• Back up General Fund AP and Receipting; support internal audits.
• Assist with researching vendor questions and year-end tasks.
