Job summary

Cleveland Clinic in Mayfield Heights is seeking a Non-Registered EEG Technician to join the Epilepsy-Neurological Institute at Hillcrest Hospital. This PRN, day/evening role offers exposure to advanced EEG procedures in a world-class clinical environment.

You will perform EEG tests, prepare patients, monitor playback and artifacts, and work under neurologists and epileptologists. ABRET credentialing within two years is encouraged, with BLS required.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in electroneurodiagnostics or related patient care field.
• Completion of an EEG Technician Trainee Program.
• ABRET credentialing within two years of hire is expected for R. EEG T.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification required.

Responsibilities

• Perform electroencephalographic examinations.
• Select predetermined electrode montages to obtain recordings and recognize artifacts.
• Monitor additional variables such as electromyograms, electrocardiograms, electro-oculograms, respiration, etc.
• Observe patient with video recording equipment and ensure EEG and tape alignment.
• Set up patient for continuous monitoring at the bedside with video, if indicated.
• Instruct nursing caregivers on event button use and video care.
• Abstract relevant information from patients' clinical records and obtain additional information.
• Attempt ABRET credentialing for R. EEG T. within two years of hire.

Electroencephalogram (EEG) Technicians use specialized equipment and processes tomonitora patient’s nervous system activity. They set up, perform, andmonitorEEG tests which record the electrical activity of a patient’s brain over time. EEG Technicians work under the supervision of epileptologists, neurologists, or other doctors.

This is a PRN role. A caregiver in this position will work 7:00am to 11:00pm with possible weekend requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Perform electroencephalographic examinations.

• Select predetermined electrode combinations (montages) to obtain recordings, recognizeartifactsand takeappropriate stepstoeliminatethem.

• Monitor onthe same apparatus, other variables such as electromyograms, electrocardiograms, electro-oculograms, respiration, etc.

• Observepatientwith video recording equipment, ensure EEG and tape are lined up exactly, and check focus,lightingand microphone.

• Set-up patient for continuous monitoring at the bedside with video, ifindicated.

• Instruct nursing caregivers on pushing eventbuttonand care of videos.

• Abstract relevant information from thepatients’clinicalrecordand obtainadditionalinformation.

• Successfully obtain the American Board of Registration for Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) credentialing for a Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) within two years of hire.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Associate’s degree inelectroneurodiagnosticsor a related patient care fieldOR two years of direct patient care experience.
• Technologist must successfully obtain the ABRET (American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists) credentialing for R. EEG T. (Registered EEG Technologist) within two years of hire into this position.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross certification required.
• Two years direct patient care experience may substitute for the Associate’s Degree requirement.
• Completion of an EEG Technician Trainee Program

Physical Requirements:

• Manual dexterity in order to place electrodes precisely and to operate recording equipment.
• Ability to push and maneuver EEG machine weighing 320 pounds and Evoked Potential machine weighing 420 pounds.
• Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
• Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
