Electroencephalogram (EEG) Technicians use specialized equipment and processes tomonitora patient's nervous system activity. They set up,perform,andmonitorEEG tests which record the electrical activity of a patient's brain over time. EEG Technicians work under the supervision of epileptologists,neurologists,or other doctors.By performing bedside EEG monitoring in this role, you willhelp to create specialized diagnoses toassistin creating patient care plans as well as help tomanage patients with chronic conditions.Caregivers in this role often feel fulfilled and valued for their work and feel as though theyare able tomake a positive change.Come bea part of a team that will allow you to gainhands-on experience and push you to learn and grow with every patient interaction.

This is a PRN role. A caregiver in this position will work a varying schedule.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Perform electroencephalographic examinations.

• Select predetermined electrode combinations (montages) to obtain recordings, recognizeartifactsand takeappropriate stepstoeliminatethem.

• Monitor onthe same apparatus, other variables such as electromyograms, electrocardiograms, electro-oculograms, respiration, etc.

• Observepatientwith video recording equipment, ensure EEG and tape are lined up exactly and check focus,lightingand microphone.

• Set-up patient for continuous monitoring at the bedside with video, ifindicated.

• Instruct nursing caregivers on pushing eventbuttonand care of videos.

• Abstract relevant information from the patients' clinicalrecordand obtainadditionalinformation.

• Successfully obtain the American Board of Registration for Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) credentialing for a Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) within two years of hire.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Associate'sDegreeinElectroneurodiagnosticsor a related patient care field OR two years of direct patient care experience

• Technologist must successfully obtain the ABRET (American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists) credentialing for R. EEG T. (Registered EEG Technologist) within two years of hire into this position.

• Completion of an EEG Technician Trainee program

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross

Physical Requirements:

• Manual dexterity in order to place electrodes precisely and to operate recording equipment.
• Ability to push and maneuver EEG machine weighing 320 pounds and Evoked Potential machine weighing 420 pounds.
• Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
• Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
