Job summary

Sims Metal is seeking a Non-Ferrous Supervisor to oversee daily operations of the non-ferrous processing area, lead a team, and ensure safe, compliant handling of metals at our Richmond, VA facility.

The role focuses on production flow, quality sorting, equipment coordination, and continuous improvement, with a strong emphasis on safety, training, and performance tracking to meet targets and drive operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED; 3–5 years in metals or related industries preferred.
• 1–2 years supervisory experience; ability to lead a team.
• Knowledge of non-ferrous metals and equipment operations beneficial.
• Must lift 50–75 lbs repeatedly and work in outdoor environments.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily non-ferrous processing activities (receiving, sorting, grading, shipping).
• Enforce safety policies; conduct daily safety meetings; ensure OSHA/EPA compliance.
• Lead, train, and develop a team; assign tasks and monitor performance.
• Ensure accurate grading/sorting and minimize contamination; maintain quality standards.
• Coordinate equipment use and yard management; track production metrics and inventory.
• Maintain records and assist budgeting efforts.
