Job summary

Socorro General Hospital is hiring a Unit Secretary/Nursing Tech to perform secretarial and clerical duties while serving as a communication hub for the nursing unit. The role includes bedside testing under a licensed nurse and support for patient care activities.

You will greet patients, process information, transcribe orders, assist with admissions, discharges and daily charting, and support unit operations, while ensuring accurate documentation and smooth workflow during night shifts.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED completed.
• Clinical experience OR completion of Unit Secretary course OR completion of self-study module required.
• Must successfully complete competency verification before starting on assigned unit.
• BLS at time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Courteously greets and directs customers; maintains unit communication.
• Answers phones and transcribes physician orders accurately.
• Manages patient admissions, transfers, discharges; ensures medical records are complete.
• Maintains census and bed status reports; files charts and reports.
• Maintains supplies and assists with unit cleanliness and orderliness.
• Monitors patients, records vital signs and facilitates patient transport.
• Assists with daily living activities and meal delivery as needed.
• Documents care in patient records and posts results in the chart.
