Job summary

Lutheran Social Services of the South, Inc. dba Upbring in Brownsville, TX is hiring a Youth Care Worker for 3rd shift (10:00 pm – 6:00 am) to provide direct care and supervision for Unaccompanied Children (UC).

The role ensures safety, complies with ORR licensing and agency policies, and reports incidents promptly. The Youth Care Worker will de-escalate situations, maintain a therapeutic environment, and coordinate with management, clinical teams and volunteers to meet program goals while

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• One year employment experience in the child welfare field working with children/adolescents.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish, based on service area and population.
• Must be able to work extended shifts, including 12-hour shifts.
• Strong conflict resolution and de-escalation skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake services for incoming UC, including paperwork, assessments, placement overview and orientation.
• Provide basic needs upon arrival (meals, clothing, hygiene products, shower, bedroom, routines).
• Supervise UC and enforce behavior limits in line with treatment plans and ORR standards.
• Perform behavior management and crisis intervention; provide 1:1 monitoring as directed by management.
