Job summary

UofL Health, Inc. is seeking a Surgical Technician for the UofL Hospital, L&D, night shift (7P–7A). The role involves direct patient care under RN supervision, maintaining sterile technique, passing instruments, and assisting with specimen handling in a fast-paced operating room.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED and completion of an accredited surgical technologist program, with BLS certification. Hospital-based training or military training in surgical technology is a plus.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/ GED or equivalent (required)
• Graduation from an accredited surgical technologist program (preferred)
• Completion of a UofL Health Surgical Technologist training program (preferred).
• Completion of hospital based surgical technologist training program.
• Graduates of a military training program in surgical technology.
• Prior patient care experience (preferred)
• Basic Life Saving (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required)

Responsibilities

• Prepares the operative area of the patient and maintains an aseptic environment by sterile technique throughout the procedure.
• Passes instruments, sponges and sutures to surgeon and assistants; counts needles, sponges and instruments.
• Receives and handles surgical specimens as directed by surgeon.
• Prepares the operating room for cases and assists with room turnover.
• Institutes cleaning, reprocessing and storage of instruments and equipment.
• Assists in transfer and positioning of patients as directed by surgeon or circulating nurse.
• Maintains confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
• Demonstrates exceptional customer service and collaborates with physicians, patients and staff.
