Job summary

UofL Health in Louisville, KY seeks a Surgical Technician to render direct patient care during surgical interventions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. You will anticipate needs, provide equipment and instruments, and maintain aseptic technique throughout procedures.

The role requires HS diploma or GED, completion of a surgical technologist program (preferred), and BLS certification. The position operates nights and offers opportunities in a leading academic health system.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares the operative area of the patient, drapes sterile field and maintains an aseptic environment by practicing sterile technique throughout the surgical procedure.
• Passes instruments, sponges and sutures to surgeon and surgical assistants, counts needles, sponges, and instruments at appropriate intervals and identifies and monitors all medications.
• Receives and handles surgical specimen as directed by surgeon.
• Prepares the operating room for cases by setting up table, instruments and supplies according to type of case and assists with room turnover.
• Institutes cleaning, reprocessing and storage of instruments and equipment.
• Assists in transfer and positioning of patients as directed by surgeon or circulating nurse.
• Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct.
• Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times.
