Catholic Charities of Baltimore is seeking a Program Assistant for the Weinberg Housing & Resource Center (WHRC), a low-barrier emergency shelter serving more than 275 adult men and women each night in Baltimore City.

WHRC provides shelter, meals, showers, laundry, case management, convalescent care, and other supportive services designed to help individuals move toward stability, self-sufficiency, and permanent housing.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience preferred, particularly with individuals experiencing homelessness.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
• Ability to stay courteous, patient, calm, and professional in challenging situations.
• Ability to intervene in and de-escalate conflict respectfully and effectively.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality required.
• Willingness to learn basic computer systems, email, and online training platforms.
• Knowledge of basic personal care and housekeeping is helpful.

Responsabilités

• Provide client-centered support that helps residents feel valued and respected.
• Monitor building and grounds to maintain a safe environment.
• Respond to concerns, incidents, emergencies calmly and professionally.
• De-escalate conflicts using respectful communication and established safety procedures.
• Assist residents with meals, clothing, laundry, hygiene, and clean living spaces.
• Orient residents and volunteers to services and program procedures.
• Inform residents of services, rights, and processes for addressing concerns.
• Maintain logs, incident reports, and required documentation.
• Communicate concerns and important information promptly to supervisors and team.
• Collaborate with staff and partners to support coordinated services and continuity of care.
• Follow program policies, procedures, safety expectations, and guidelines.
• Perform other duties to support shelter operations.
