Job summary

Porchlight Inc. operates the Porchlight Men's Shelter in Madison, WI, seeking a Shelter Manager to oversee daily shelter operations for adult men experiencing homelessness. You will supervise Shift Supervisors, coordinate coverage, and ensure safe, trauma-informed service delivery.

Role requires strong leadership, policy adherence, and collaboration with case management and community partners; on-call coverage and flexible hours are involved.

Qualifications

• Strong leadership and staff supervision skills.
• Strong communication, organization, conflict-resolution, and crisis management skills.
• Ability to work respectfully with diverse populations experiencing sheltered and unsheltered homelessness.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and participate in on-call coverage.

Responsibilities

• Directly supervise Shift Supervisors and other assigned staff; provide supervision, coaching, and feedback.
• Participate in hiring and onboarding; identify training needs.
• Develop biweekly schedules and ensure coverage for all shifts; provide on-call coverage as needed.
• Serve as on-call resource and coordinate reliable coverage during absences.
• Review staff time in iSolved; address performance concerns with HR and leadership.
• Lead monthly shelter staff meetings and ensure effective shift briefings and follow-ups.
• Oversee shelter operations across shifts; ensure policy adherence and program expectations.
• Coordinate intake, bed assignments, and facility access with relevant staff.
• Collaborate on case management and Coordinated Entry; address personnel concerns.
• Maintain accurate daily records, incident reports, and documentation.
• Coordinate supplies and services with vendors and Porchlight offices.
• Coordinate food service with Kitchen staff; adjust policies as needed.
• Review policies and implement improvements based on feedback.
