Job summary

Methodist Southwest Medical Center in the Dallas area is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to provide a range of respiratory therapies and diagnostic services for adults and neonates under indirect supervision.

The role requires an accredited Respiratory Care Program graduate, Texas licensure, NBRC RRT, BLS and ACLS, with NRP/PALS to be obtained within 1 year, and at least 6 months of experience. The hospital emphasizes Magnet status and award recognitions.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care Program.
• Current Basic Life Support certification required.
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification required.
• NRP, Pediatric Advanced Life Support — must obtain within 1 year of hire.
• Currently licensed in good standing as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by Texas Medical Board.
• Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
• At least 6 months respiratory care experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs respiratory therapeutics including oxygen administration and weaning, aerosol and humidity therapy, IPPB, Incentive Spirometry, airway maintenance, bronchial hygiene, chest physiotherapy, CPR and mechanical ventilation.
• Performs and reports prescribed cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures including arterial blood gas analysis, pulse oximetry, pulmonary function studies, and electrocardiograms.
• Prepares a treatment evaluation including bedside respiratory assessment, patient interview and review of medical record.
• Uses critical thinking to determine appropriate actions.
• Interprets chest X-ray, ABG, and PFT data when reviewing patient information.
• Assembles, checks, operates and troubleshoots cardiopulmonary equipment such as ventilators, oxygen analyzers, delivery devices and blood gas analysers.
• Engages in infection control, safety and quality assurance tasks.
• Performs cleaning and maintenance of equipment and work areas.
• Uses patient scripting to improve satisfaction.
• Performs other duties as required.
