Job summary

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Psychiatry unit on a part-time night shift. The RN will assess patients, plan and deliver nursing care, administer medications, and participate in quality assurance activities within the SBELIH campus.

The role requires NYS RN license and BLS certification, with BSN preferred and ACLS/PMH-BC encouraged. The position includes coordination with multidisciplinary teams and patient-family education to support recovery and safety.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Possession of or eligibility for a license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

• Assess the patient’s condition and nursing needs; coordinate nursing care activities with other health disciplines involved in the treatment effort to relate and integrate the nursing regimen with the treatment plan for patients.
• Develop a written individualized care plan which includes teaching needs and discharge planning.
• Administer direct care when professional nursing skills and judgment are needed.
• Administer medication.
• Practice infection control and maintain a clean and safe environment.
• Communicate changes in patient’s condition and questions regarding patient care to Charge RN/Clinician.
• Develop and maintain current written plan of care for assigned patients; set priorities and goals with patient/family.
• Document patient education and responses in the medical record; ensure instructions align with physician.
