Job summary

TriCore in New Mexico’s largest laboratory offers a hands‑on Clinical Lab Assistant - Phlebotomist role at University Hospital. You will work independently with minimal supervision, perform multiple modalities, and may enter a paid apprenticeship if inexperienced.

Regular attendance during scheduled hours is essential. The position requires a HS diploma, ASCP certification preferred, immunization against Hepatitis B, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• H.S. diploma or equivalent.
• PBT (ASCP) or equivalent certification.
• Completion of a relevant Clinical Lab Assistant or comparable program.
• Immunization: Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination or waiver.
• Valid driver's license and insurable by lab.
• Eligible to work in a health care facility.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties in a professional and courteous manner.
• Maintains supplies and inventory for departmental functions.
• Observe students and/or new staff as needed.
• Exhibits basic problem solving to ensure patient care quality.
• Responsible for hospital communication and on-call duties by location.
• Demonstrates effective telephone and verbal communication skills.
• Uses professional judgment when dealing with clients, patients and colleagues.
• Performs necessary clerical tasks and documents critical communications when needed.
• Maintains confidentiality of information and access.
• Participates in on-call coverage to meet service levels.
• Participates in coverage for holidays, evenings, and weekends as needed.
• Basic PC skills.
