Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals seeks a Pharmacy Technician to assist with drug distribution, sterile product preparation, and medication delivery across patient-care units. You will work under the supervision of a pharmacist, following written procedures and complying with state boards.

Responsibilities include reading orders, preparing medications, maintaining records for controlled substances, and supporting inventory management.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Six (6) months of pharmacy technician experience.
• Must possess current licensure as required by state boards: WV, OH, PA, MD.

Responsibilities

• Read physician orders and prepare medications for dispensing.
• Deliver medications and order drug supplies for patient-care units.
• Understand standard pharma terms and abbreviations used in dispensing.
• Replenish medications and deliver contents to patient care areas.
• Accurately prepare and deliver controlled substances and maintain records.
• Take inventory and replace outdated medications; replenish stock.
• Label products.
• Perform dosage calculations for medications.
• Check prescribed doses for weight and age.
• Follow departmental standards for speed and accuracy.
• Prepare and label prepackaged medications and maintain related records.
• Maintain inventory in pharmacy areas.
• Answer telephone and route calls as needed.
• Keep pharmacy areas and drug storage clean and orderly.
• Some duties reserved for Pharmacists as per state/federal rules.
• Assist in sterile parenteral preparation under supervision.
• Prepare IV admixtures using aseptic technique.
• Enter info on parenteral admixtures into Pharmacy IV systems.
• Manage controlled substances for the health-system.

Ohio Pharmacy Technician License

Pennsylvania Pharmacy Technician License

West Virginia Pharmacy Technician License

Associates degree or post high school science education or pharmacy technician training program
