Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking an Operations Pharmacy Technician I to assist in drug distribution under pharmacist supervision.

Responsibilities include preparing unit-dose medications, reading prescriptions, inventory management, and delivering medications. Requires high school diploma and active Pharmacy Technician licensure in applicable states; six months of experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided.
• Associates degree OR posthigh school science education OR graduate of a pharmacy technician training program.
• Six (6) months of pharmacy technician experience.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for preparing unit-dose medications, delivering medications, and ordering and delivering drug supplies.
• Reads physician orders/prescriptions and prepares medication for dispensing, including pediatric and geriatric forms.
• Understands standard pharmaceutical terms and abbreviations used in dispensing.
• Communicates with patients or caregivers to determine medication details and delivery.
• Accurately prepares and delivers controlled substances and maintains records.
• Takes inventory and replaces outdated medications; maintains inventory.
• Prepares non-parenteral medications, including oral solutions for pediatrics.
• Labels parenteral/Prescription products appropriately.
• Performs arithmetic calculations for dosage determinations.
• Follows department standards for speed and accuracy.
• Prepares and labels prepackaged medications and maintains related records.
• Maintains inventory in assigned pharmacy areas.
• Answers telephone and routes calls appropriately.
• Ensures pharmacy areas and drug storage are clean and orderly.
• Respects state/federal restrictions on certain pharmacist-only duties.
