Job summary

UMass Memorial Health - Harrington Hospital is seeking a Patient Transporter to assist the nursing staff by transporting patients and materials across the campus. Responsibilities include ambulation assistance, bed and equipment transport, and maintaining accurate transport logs in TDSS.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, English proficiency, and strong customer service skills; preferred BLS certification within 6 months and hospital experience.

Qualifications

• Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must read, write, speak and understand English; strong interpersonal skills.
• Preferred: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 6 months; six months hospital experience.

Responsibilities

• Escort ambulatory patients by wheelchair, stretcher or bed.
• Assist nursing and lift tech in moving and positioning patients.
• Deliver beds, stretchers, cribs, and wheelchairs; clean equipment.
• Transport patient specimens and materials per infection control guidelines.
• Hand off communication to receiving unit after transport.
• Check oxygen cylinders and distribute throughout hospital.
• Use TDSS dispatch system and maintain transport logs.
• Support department in triage transport during emergencies.
