Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Transporter to assist in moving patients and materials within the hospital environment. The role requires safety‑focused transport, coordination with nursing staff and accurate patient identification throughout each shift.

The position emphasizes teamwork, strong communication and adherence to infection control practices. A High School diploma and BLS certification are expected, with potential signing bonus and benefits through the recruitment team.

Qualifications

• BLS Certification within 6 months of hire.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
• Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Preferred: 6 months’ hospital experience.

Responsibilities

• Escort ambulatory patients by wheelchair, stretcher or bed and verify patient identity; ensure comfort and safety during transport.
• Assist nursing staff with patient movement and positioning using lift devices; follow infection control precautions.
• Deliver stretchers, beds and wheelchairs; clean and sanitize transport equipment periodically.
• Transport patient specimens and materials per infection control guidelines; handle specimens to appropriate departments.
• Deliver other items such as medical records, prescriptions and reports as required.
