Job summary

IU Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCA) to support bedside RNs by taking vital signs, assisting with meals, baths, mobility, and linen changes. The role emphasizes compassionate care, safety, and teamwork in a high‑volume hospital environment.

The position requires BLS certification and the ability to handle the physical demands of patient care while maintaining strict infection control practices.

Qualifications

• Requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the AHA or attainment during the PCA education program.
• Knowledge of age-appropriate care for patients and infection control principles.
• Ability to read and perform basic math; accurate documentation and task execution.

Responsibilities

• Assist bedside RN by obtaining vital signs and reporting changes promptly.
• Provide patient care activities such as helping with meals, baths, walking, and linen changes.
• Maintain patient safety with gait belts, bed/chair alarms, and staying within arm's reach.
• Demonstrate compassionate bedside manner in a fast-paced hospital setting.
