Job summary

St. Joseph Medical Center in Houston seeks an Admitting Registrar responsible for timely and accurate patient registration and seamless hand-off to clinical and nonclinical departments.

The role interviews patients, collects demographics and financial information, confirms insurance eligibility, performs pre-certifications, and collects patient portions at the point of service. Night shifts are 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. with rotating weekends.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2-3 years of registration or comparable work experience.
• Ability to prioritize work with minimal supervision.
• Basic computer knowledge; experience with registration systems preferred.
• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Other certification requirements as defined by policy.

Responsibilities

• Register patients accurately and timely, ensuring HIPAA compliance.
• Obtain and record demographics and financial information; verify insurance eligibility.
• Perform pre-certification/authorization and collect patient portions at point of service.
• Provide bedside/ED registration per EMTALA requirements when needed.
• Document registration notes and coordinate with payer systems for eligibility.
• Communicate with hospital case management to support payer requirements.
