Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO in Norfolk, VA seeks a 2nd shift Paint Foreman to lead a team in painting and related trades. The role requires enforcing safety, quality, and schedule while managing a crew of 8–20 tradespeople and coordinating with production and program management.

The candidate should have leadership, strong communication, and hands-on experience in ship repair, with knowledge of MIL standards and welding of pipes/structures.

Qualifications

• Education and experience are taken into consideration for advancement.
• BA/BS plus 2 years in a related field or AA/AS plus 4 years directly related experience or 8 years related ship building/repair experience.
• In-depth knowledge of ship repair trade practices and standards.
• Knowledge of contracting and estimating procedures.
• Familiarity with MIL-STD-009-12, MIL-STD-1689, and S9074-AR-GIB-010/278.
• Ability to weld pipe and structural components and certify as a level II visual inspector.
• Effective leadership, communication and teamwork skills; proficient with Microsoft products.

Responsibilities

• On-site deck-plate leader for a trade team of 8–20 mechanics, ensuring safety, quality, schedule and budget.
• Plan manpower and communicate resource requirements to the General Foreman.
• Review schedules, develop 1–2 week plans, and track progress with the General Foreman.
• Assign daily work, monitor performance, and ensure proper toolings and drawings are available.
• Enforce collective bargaining agreement terms and conduct performance reviews.
• Walk jobs before assignment, coordinate with other shops, and address issues to meet goals.
