Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO in Norfolk, VA is seeking a 2nd shift Paint Foreman who will lead a team of mechanics in ship repair and painting. The foreman ensures safety, quality, budget, and schedule compliance while reporting to the General Foreman.

The role requires experience in ship repair, MIL-STD knowledge, and the ability to inspect with a level II visual inspector certification. Expect ownership of tasks and active participation in continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Requires BA/BS with 2 years (or AA/AS with 4 years) related experience or 8 years direct shipbuilding/ship repair experience.
• In-depth knowledge of ship repair trade facets.
• Familiar with MIL-STD-009-12, MIL-STD-1689, and S9074-AR-GIB-010/278.
• Demonstrated ability to weld pipe and structural components.
• Must certify as a level II visual inspector.
• Experience with contracting and estimating procedures.

Responsibilities

• Lead, guide, coordinate, train, and supervise a team of trades personnel (8–20) on the 2nd shift.
• Plan manpower requirements and communicate resource needs to the General Foreman.
• Develop daily work assignments; ensure safety, quality, schedule, and budget adherence.
• Allocate work to technicians to maximize efficiency and skill use.
• Monitor and document performance; participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ensure proper supervision and availability of tooling, drawings, and procedures.
