Job summary

Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC is seeking a Nursing Care Assistant to support patient care in the General Medicine unit during night shifts. The NA will work under the supervision of RNs/LPNs to provide direct and supportive care to acutely ill patients.

Responsibilities include preparing patients and equipment, recording vital signs, assisting with daily living activities, and ensuring patient safety and comfort. Pre-employment testing and ongoing certification are required.

Qualifications

• Currently listed as a Nursing Assistant I (NA I) with the NC Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Health Service Regulation with no substantiated findings of abuse, fraud, neglect or misappropriation of property.
• BCLS certification must be maintained/completed by the end of new hire orientation.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients, equipment and supplies for procedures and provide manual assistance as required.
• Obtain and record patient data for medical records and inform RN/LPN of information collected.
• Administer basic care and comfort, assist with activities of daily living, and support patient safety and comfort.
• Take and record vital signs, document and notify RN/LPN of changes in patient condition.
• Assist with admission, discharge, and transport of patients; maintain unit cleanliness and stock supplies.
