Job summary

Mercy Health’s Core Laboratory – Anderson is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) to perform routine tests on blood, tissues, and specimens, delivering quality results to physicians while upholding patient safety and data confidentiality.

Responsibilities include analytical testing, quality control, and maintaining equipment. Requires BS in MLS-related field and MLS certification or eligibility, with externship preferred, in a 40-hour weekly night shift setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent CLIA-approved program is required.
• MLS certification or eligible by a recognized agency (preferably ASCP) is required.
• Externship program completed is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs analytical tests on biological specimens, in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner in compliance with documented laboratory procedures.
• Determines acceptability of specimens by performing visual inspections or by recognizing abnormal/unusual results.
• Recognizes factors that affect measurements and results by taking the appropriate action according to protocols.
• Performs quality control for all testing and meets established ranges before patient results are released.
• Maintains a safe and efficient work environment by performing equipment checks, cleaning work area, monitoring temperatures following hospital policies, and troubleshoots laboratory equipment.
• Other duties as assigned
