Job summary

Mercy Health's Anderson Hospital is seeking a Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) to perform routine tests on blood and tissues and deliver quality results to physicians. The MLS must safeguard patient safety and demonstrate laboratory proficiency across diverse equipment.

Essential duties include performing tests, verifying specimen quality, applying QC procedures, and maintaining a safe lab. Education requires a BS in a related field and MLS certification or eligibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology or Biochemistry from a CLIA-approved program.
• MLS certification or eligible by a recognized agency (ASCP preferred).
• Externship completed preferred.
• Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment and engage professionally with staff and patients.

Responsibilities

• Performs analytical tests on biological specimens accurately and efficiently per procedures.
• Determines specimen acceptability by inspection and recognizing abnormal results.
• Recognizes factors affecting measurements and takes action per protocols.
• Performs quality control and ensures results meet established ranges before release.
• Maintains a safe, clean work environment and troubleshoots equipment.
