Job summary

The South Dakota Department of Corrections is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for night shift duties at the New Rapid City Women’s Correctional Facility in Rapid City, SD. The role includes direct nursing care in clinic settings, administration of medications, and collaboration on treatment plans.

Applicants must hold a current SD LPN license and demonstrate strong patient communication skills. Benefits are comprehensive, with the option of a $5,000 hiring incentive and SDRS retirement.

Qualifications

• Must possess a current, valid LPN license from the SD Board of Nursing.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to respond to emergencies involving offenders and/or medical situations.
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Documents in an accurate and timely manner to provide offender medical records.
• Provides standardized patient education within nursing guidelines.
• Transcribes reports at change of shifts.
• Provides physical care and treatments, administers medications, and assists with treatment plans.
• Promotes safety and security of the clinical environment and responsible for supply control.
• Assists physicians and nurse practitioners with minor procedures.
