Job summary

South Dakota Department of Corrections, Correctional Health, is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for a weeknight shift (7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.) at Sioux Falls Jameson Prison Annex.

The position is 36 hours per week with every third holiday, plus a $5,000 hiring incentive and full state benefits including SDRS retirement. Responsibilities include providing skilled nursing care, administering medications, educating patients, maintaining records, and supporting treatment plans.

Qualifications

• Must possess a current, valid LPN license issued by the SD Board of Nursing.
• Experience in correctional or medical clinic settings preferred.
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and accurate documentation.

Responsibilities

• Provide skilled nursing care in clinic settings for incarcerated offenders.
• Administer medications and monitor treatments per nursing guidelines.
• Transcribe shift-change reports and maintain accurate records.
• Assist physicians and nurse practitioners with procedures as needed.
• Ensure medication restocking and inventory control; practice infection control measures.
• Participate in training and maintain safety and security in the clinical area.
