Job summary

Summit Health is seeking a Lab Support Specialist I in Woodland Park, NJ to assist technologists with labeling, organizing, and maintaining COVID, blood chemistry, histology, and urine samples. The role involves specimen prep, LIS use, troubleshooting, and ensuring safety protocols are followed.

The position requires a High School diploma or GED, Health Sciences degree preferred, and about 1 year related experience. Shift is Monday–Friday, 10:00pm–6:30am with rotating weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate/GED is required.
• Health Sciences degree (AA/AS, BA/BS) preferred.
• 1 year related work experience preferred.
• Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, required.
• Moderate-High level computer skills required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare specimens for testing and ensure proper labeling.
• Organize and maintain lab storage and samples.
• Register, retrieve, and dispose of specimens as appropriate.
• Familiar with tube types, test requests and medical terminology.
• Sanitize equipment and workspace.
• Perform pipetting and organize samples; troubleshoot specimens.
• Ensure proper additives and timely processing for testing.
• Centrifuge specimens after proper clotting time.
• Discard aged specimens in appropriate disposal units.
• Carry out additional duties within scope of ability.
