Job summary

VillageMD is seeking a dedicated Laboratory Technician to support technologists in processing and organizing specimens, including COVID, blood chemistry, histology and urine samples. You will label, track and prepare specimens, ensuring proper handling and adherence to safety guidelines.

The role emphasizes accurate labeling, caring for reference requisitions, and maintaining a clean, organized lab area while working a night schedule with rotating weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate/GED, required
• Health Sciences degree (AA/AS, BA/BS), preferred
• 1 year related work experience, preferred
• Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, required
• Moderate-High level Computer skills, required
• Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Preparation of specimens for testing and labeling.
• Organize and maintain lab storage, samples, and specimens.
• Registers, retrieves, discards specimens as appropriate.
• Familiar with tube types, test requests and medical terminology.
• Sanitize equipment and workspace.
• Performs pipetting and organizing of samples.
• Troubleshoot problem specimens to find resolution.
• Ensure specimens are collected and processed correctly.
• Centrifuge specimens when required.
• Discard aged specimens properly.
