Job summary

Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa seeks a Communications Clerk for the night shift to operate the hospital switchboard, route calls, and support emergency communications. You will manage paging systems, coordinate on-call schedules, and assist physicians and staff with timely information while maintaining patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities include handling after-hours calls, responding to emergencies, and ensuring accurate dissemination of weather alerts and critical messages.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Business College coursework preferred.
• Experience with computer operations and switchboard preferred; keyboarding experience is preferred.
• Must demonstrate strong communication, confidentiality and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

• Answer and direct calls using approved scripting.
• Operate Zetron Paging System for paging and coordination.
• Coordinate on-call schedules and keep online postings up-to-date.
• Handle after-hours calls for physician offices and emergency situations.
• Notify appropriate personnel during codes and mass notification events.
• Maintain security and monitoring procedures; ensure patient and staff information confidentiality.
