Job summary

The City of Austin is seeking a Supervisor for the Fleet Service Center to oversee the overnight and day shifts, directing technicians in maintenance and repairs of city vehicles and equipment. The role requires strong leadership and hands-on supervision to ensure timely, safe, and compliant service.

Candidates should have extensive experience in heavy vehicle maintenance, solid diagnostic skills, and a proven ability to manage high-volume workloads.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of direct work experience maintaining and repairing complex mechanical equipment, with two (2) years in a supervisory or lead capacity.

Responsibilities

• Supervises the work activities and assignments of technicians on a shift.
• Directs work progress, approves parts orders, and evaluates repair quality before releasing equipment.
• Assists with diagnosis and ensures accurate repair, and communicates status to customers.
• Enforces City and Fleet policies, opens work orders, and tracks labor and parts.
• Monitors downtime and manages fleet reports and budgets as needed.
