Night Shift Building Construction Safety Professional

• Monday–Thursday
• 7:30 PM–6:00 AM
• 40 hours/week
• Project through October 1, 2028

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Night Shift Building Construction Safety Professional to support major building, civil, infrastructure, and construction activities in Washington, DC. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned construction safety professional with a strong understanding of OSHA regulations, contractor safety oversight, high-risk construction activities, safety audits, incident investigations, and field compliance. You will play a critical role in maintaining a safe construction environment during nighttime operations, working closely with project management, contractors, subcontractors, and field personnel to identify hazards, implement corrective actions, and ensure compliance with project and OSHA requirements.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily safety inspections and walkthroughs of active construction areas.
• Verify compliance with OSHA Construction Standards (29 CFR 1926), client requirements, and project-specific safety plans.
• Monitor contractor compliance with Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and Safe Work Plans.
• Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Stop work when imminent danger situations are identified.
• Conduct documented safety audits of contractors, subcontractors, equipment, and work operations.

• Verify proper housekeeping, material storage, access control, site logistics, lighting, and traffic control.
• Track safety observations and corrective actions through completion.

• Collect photographs, documentation, witness statements, and other investigation information.
• Assist project leadership with root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Review contractor safety documentation, pre-task plans, training records, and certifications.
• Participate in safety orientations, toolbox talks, and pre-shift briefings.
• Monitor high-risk activities occurring during nighttime operations.
• Ensure adequate lighting, visibility, traffic control, and public safety measures are maintained throughout the shift.
• Prepare detailed daily safety reports and maintain accurate compliance documentation.
• Track safety metrics, trends, inspections, incidents, and corrective actions.
• Communicate safety findings and recommendations to project leadership and client representatives.
• Promote a proactive safety culture through coaching, mentoring, and engagement with project personnel.
• Support safety stand-downs, awareness campaigns, and special safety initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

• 10+ years of progressively responsible construction safety experience, including field safety inspections and compliance oversight.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards (29 CFR 1926).
• Experience supporting large construction, infrastructure, utility, transportation, industrial, or facility projects.
• Demonstrated ability to identify construction hazards and implement effective mitigation measures.
• Experience conducting safety audits, investigations, and compliance inspections.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic safety management systems.
• Valid driver's license and ability to access active construction sites.
• Ability to work independently during night shift construction operations.
• High school diploma or GED required

Preferred

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
• OSHA 500, OSHA 510, CHST, CSP, ASP, CSHO, or equivalent safety certification.
• Experience supporting owner-led construction management programs.
• Knowledge of environmental compliance and industrial hygiene practices.
• Experience overseeing safety within occupied facilities or active transportation corridors.
