Job summary

Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC, seeks an Assistant Nurse Manager for the Level III NICU and Transitional Nursery to lead night operations, coordinate staffing, and mentor staff. The ANM ensures high-risk deliveries are managed with evidence-based neonatal care and collaborates with neonatology and OB teams.

The role requires leadership experience, DC RN licensure, BLS/NRP, and a proactive approach to quality and safety in a dynamic NICU setting.

Qualifications

• BSN preferred; must obtain BSN within 3 years if not yet obtained.
• Current DC RN license and active status.
• Minimum 2 years NICU or perinatal experience preferred.
• 1 year supervisory/leadership experience required.
• Current BLS certification; NRP required.
• National neonatal certification within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide onsite night shift leadership for Level III NICU and Transitional Nursery.
• Align staffing to acuity, census, and high-risk deliveries.
• Coach and mentor nursing staff; assist evaluations.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and staff development.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and evidence-based practice.
• Collaborate with neonatology, OB, and ancillary teams.
• Address operational issues impacting safe neonatal care.
• Escalate significant events and patient/family concerns promptly.
