Job summary

Abode seeks a Swing shift Shelter Monitor for the Alum Rock/Kirk Emergency Shelter and Veterans program in San Jose, CA. This role ensures health and safety of residents, assists with daily needs, donors and volunteers, and helps maintain shelter cleanliness.

The position supports operations on the graveyard shift, with 100% employer-paid health benefits and a mission-driven environment within a diverse, supportive leadership team. Veteran-focused outreach is encouraged.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 6 months of social services or customer service experience.
• Valid California Driver's License and current auto insurance with a clean DMV record.
• Flexible schedule to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Implement and operate Shelter program procedures, handling front desk activities and greeting visitors/volunteers.
• Inspect facility, sign in participants, enforce shelter guidelines, and document resident needs with logs and reports.
• Respond to participants' requests and resolve conflicts or crises as they arise.
• Communicate with service coordinators and shelter staff about incidents and activities during shifts.
• Maintain safe, client-centered environment with professional boundaries and high service standards.
• Complete participant intakes/exit paperwork and assist with unit turnover and daily cleaning when residents are away.
• Collaborate with agency staff and participate in trainings, meetings, and supervision.
