Job summary

Geisinger is seeking a Patient Care Technician for night shifts at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre. The role offers a $1500 sign-on bonus, a minimum hiring rate of $18.94 per hour, and enhanced rates for experienced staff and for evenings, nights, and weekend shifts.

Eligible employees may receive up to $40,000 in nursing school financial support. The position emphasizes high-quality patient care, reliability, teamwork, and strong attendance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Graduate from Specialty Training Program preferred
• Minimum of 1 year related work experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Provides enhanced patient care under the direction of the licensed nurse, including dressing care, suctioning, Foley catheter and IV removal
• May perform venipunctures and skin punctures for specimen collection per CLSI guidelines
• Handle daily tasks for storage, preparation and delivery of breast milk, infant and pediatric formulas
• Documents in medical records and maintains patient chart accuracy
• Observes and reports changes in patient condition to licensed personnel
• Obtains and maintains specimens per policy and physician orders
• Assists patients with activities of daily living and linen changes
• Performs one-to-one patient safety watch as assigned
• Transports specimens to the laboratory and ensures timely processing
• Performs point-of-care testing and maintains related equipment
• Assists with equipment maintenance and problem solving
• Acts as a preceptor/mentor for new staff and students
• Compiles admissions/transfers/discharges data and processes orders accordingly
• Coordinates patient transportation to multiple tests and communicates electronic information
• Assists with ordering supplies and coordinating dietary needs
• Communicates with food services for patient diets
• Maintains clerical equipment and schedules maintenance of devices
• Supports medication storage and transport within the unit
• Performs duties to ensure clinical workflow and patient throughput
• Supports regulatory readiness and quality rounds when needed
