Job summary

Duke Health in Durham, NC seeks a Clinical Tech I to perform a range of specimen procurement, processing, and evaluation tasks in the Duke Health laboratories. You will teach and perform routine clerical and technical procedures, collect specimens, and liaise with outside clients.

The role supports accurate diagnostics and patient care in a CAP-accredited lab. The position requires phlebotomy competency, basic computer skills, and effective communication with patients and staff.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED; phlebotomy training recommended for phlebotomy assignment.
• At least 2 years as Clinical Tech I or phlebotomy certification with competency.
• Phlebotomy certification may be required for Phlebotomy Services.
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terms.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and specialized procedures in patient specimen processing.
• Prepare tests including cytogenetics, urinalysis, phlebotomy, and specimen management.
• Receive, label, and track specimens; ensure positive patient identification.
• Utilize hospital information systems; maintain records and order entry.
• Maintain inventory, safety, and infection control procedures.
