Job summary

MLK Community Healthcare in Los Angeles is seeking an LDRP Clinical Registered Nurse responsible for delivering patient care to perinatal patients in a 12-hour shift. You will assist laboring patients, newborns, and mothers, while maintaining evidence-based perinatal practices and following unit procedures.

Candidates should have a BSN, at least one year of Labor & Delivery/Postpartum nursing experience, and may have NICU experience.

Qualifications

• BSN required; individuals hired without a BSN must complete a degree program within 5 years of hire date.
• Minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience in Labor and Delivery and Postpartum.
• Nursery and/or NICU experience preferred.
• Bilingual skills preferred (Spanish).

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates and maintains the competencies, qualifications, attitudes, behaviors, and skills required of the LDRP Clinical Registered Nurse.
• Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration during all interactions.
• Carries out directives from the CUS, Nurse Manager and Senior Director per the chain of command.
• Maintains understanding of perinatal evidence-based practices, new knowledge, and follows MLKCH policies and procedures.
• Attends and assists with laboring patients, cesarean births and vaginal births; immediate care of the newborn, mother assessments and infant assessments and care.
• Develops and maintains a therapeutic nurse/patient relationship throughout the health care continuum.
• Utilizes SBAR communications in all emergencies, endorsements of care, and routine bedside hand-off reports.
• Recognizes, evaluates, responds, and communicates appropriately during maternal, neonatal emergencies, and/or unusual situations and maintains current position competencies.
• Adheres to the Baby-Friendly model of care.
• Performs documentation of patient care including: assessment, IPOC, implementation, evaluation, education, discharge, and follows unit policies.
• Formulates a nursing diagnosis and a care plan in collaboration with the client.
