Job summary

Forward Air Corp. is seeking a skilled Forklift Operator to safely load, unload, stage, and move freight in a multimodal terminal, warehouse, or dock environment.

You will operate sit-down and stand-up forklifts and other MHE, scan items, document movements, and support dock productivity. The role requires a valid forklift certification, 3+ years of dock/warehouse experience, English communication skills, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs (75 lbs with assistance).

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Valid forklift certification/licensure (or ability to obtain before operating equipment).
• 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing.
• Ability to recognize numbers, labels, barcodes, and freight markings accurately, and to perform basic arithmetic.
• Basic arithmetic skills to verify freight counts, quantities, and weights.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight using sit-down/stand-up forklifts and reach trucks and other MHE.
• Move, stage, sort, and position freight between dock doors, trailers, and designated warehouse areas.
• Pick, pack, and prepare items for shipping and delivery.
• Assist drivers with loading and unloading activities following dock and safety procedures.
• Label, scan, and track freight using handheld scanners and company systems.
• Identify damaged freight and report issues or unsafe conditions to supervisors.
• Abide by safety policies and PPE standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe dock environment across work areas and equipment.
• Learn equipment operation, safety protocols, and procedures on developing roles.
• Support dock productivity and workflow efficiency.
• Work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
• Safely handle oversized, high-value, or complex freight.
• Assist with dock coordination and task prioritization.
• Serve as a SME on dock operations and procedures.
• Train and mentor other Material Handlers.
