Job summary

Forward Air Corp. is seeking an experienced Forklift Operator in Linden, NJ for safe loading, unloading, staging, and documentation of freight in a multimodal terminal. Onsite night shifts and handling of MHE are required.

You will operate sit-down/stand-up forklifts and reach trucks, follow safety policies, train new Material Handlers, and support dock productivity.

Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs with assistance and adherence to OSHA standards are essential for daily operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Valid forklift certification/licensure (or ability to obtain before operating equipment).
• 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing.
• Ability to recognize numbers, labels, barcodes, and freight markings, and to perform basic arithmetic.
• Willingness to learn and use basic computer systems and handheld scanners.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly, up to 75 lbs with assistance or mechanical aids.
• Experience operating sit‑down/stand‑up forklifts and reach trucks with training.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight using sit‑down/stand‑up forklifts and reach trucks and other MHE.
• Move, stage, sort, and position freight between dock doors and trailers.
• Pick, pack, and prepare items for shipping and delivery.
• Assist drivers with loading and unloading following dock procedures.
• Label, scan, and track freight using handheld devices and company systems.
• Identify damaged freight and report issues or unsafe conditions.
• Maintain a clean, safe dock environment and follow safety policies.
• Learn equipment operation, safety protocols, and job procedures for developing roles.
• Support dock productivity and workflow efficiency.
